Archive use and service terms
These terms describe use of the current Living Tree Archive pilot. Updated September 24, 2026.
Access and accounts
Use your own account and keep access secure. Family access is granted by an archive owner and limited by your assigned role. Do not attempt to enter another person’s private collection or share restricted family material outside its permitted audience.
Your contributions
Submit material you own or have permission to share. Record uncertain ownership or permission rather than claiming authorization you do not have. You retain your rights in your material. By submitting it for preservation and review, you authorize the archive to store it, make viewing copies, and process it for the purposes and sharing preferences you choose. Family publication remains a separate review step.
Historical evidence and restorations
Family records can contain errors, incomplete dates, disputed relationships, and unconfirmed identifications. Source citations, uncertainty, and corrections are part of the archive. A restored image is a viewing copy, not new historical evidence. Face-match suggestions require human confirmation.
Quotes and paid work
Requesting a quote does not place an order or charge you. Research scope, deliverables, project price, and any recurring service must be agreed separately before paid work begins. A scanning provider may quote separately. These pages do not create a new subscription or change an existing agreement.
Preservation and availability
Keep independent copies of irreplaceable originals. Owners can export archive records and available stored files; externally linked originals may require separate backup. The pilot may be updated and can experience interruptions. No fixed archival lifetime or automatic deletion period is promised here.
Questions and corrections
Contact your family steward about archive access, evidence, and sharing. For service questions or an account request, contact the archive team. See the privacy notice for information handling.
